Five plays later, Drew Brees connected on a 53-yard strike to Meachem for what turned out to be the game-tying touchdown that sent the contest into overtime.

Washington won the toss at the beginning of overtime and not surprisingly elected to receive. Following a first down on the first play from scrimmage in the extra period, on second and four, Redskins' Fullback Mike Sellers fumbled, giving the Saints possession inside Redskins' territory at the 37.

Seven plays after the turnover, Saints' kicker Garrett Hartley knocked through the game-winning 18-yard field goal, keeping the Saints unbeated at 12 wins and zero losses.
